Larnaca is a practical starting point for exploring Cyprus by car. Beaches, mountain villages, archaeological sites and the island’s main cities can all be reached on day trips, while you return to Larnaca in the evening.

The routes below suit different types of travellers, from families looking for an easy beach day to visitors interested in history, traditional villages and mountain scenery. Driving conditions, opening hours and access may change, so check your route before departure. Remember that traffic in Cyprus moves on the left.

Ayia Napa and Cape Greco

Ayia Napa offers sandy beaches, a lively harbour area and a historic centre. It can be combined with Cape Greco National Forest Park, located between Ayia Napa and Protaras.

Cape Greco is a good choice for coastal views, walking trails and scenic stops. Allow enough time for parking and walking, particularly during the busy summer season.

Protaras and Fig Tree Bay

Protaras is well suited to families and travellers planning a relaxed beach day. Fig Tree Bay is one of the area’s best-known beaches, with restaurants and other services nearby.

Protaras can be combined with Cape Greco, but visiting both areas comfortably requires an early start during summer.

Lefkara and Kato Drys

Lefkara is approximately 43 kilometres from Larnaca and is known for its traditional stone streets, lace embroidery and filigree silverwork.

Nearby Kato Drys offers a quieter village atmosphere and traditional architecture. These villages are a practical choice for a shorter trip from Larnaca, with time for lunch and local shops.

Nicosia Old City

Nicosia provides a different experience from the coastal resorts. Visitors can explore the old city, museums, shops, cafés and neighbourhoods inside and around the Venetian walls.

Traffic and parking are busier than in the villages, so it is sensible to choose a central car park and explore the historic centre on foot.

Limassol

Limassol combines a modern seafront with an old town, marina, restaurants and shopping areas. It works well as a full-day city trip from Larnaca.

Allow additional travel time during busy periods. Parking outside the busiest central streets can make the visit easier.

Kourion Archaeological Site

Kourion is one of the most important archaeological sites in Cyprus and is located west of Limassol. Its elevated position also provides wide views towards the coast.

The site includes an ancient theatre, mosaics and remains from different historical periods. Check the official opening hours before travelling and take sun protection during the warmer months.

Troodos Mountains and Platres

The Troodos region offers mountain scenery, traditional villages, walking routes and cooler temperatures than the coast during summer.

Platres is a useful base for exploring the area. Mountain roads include bends and changes in elevation, so allow more time than the distance alone may suggest and check the weather before departure.

Omodos and the Wine Villages

Omodos is a traditional wine-producing village in the Troodos area. Its stone streets, village square, local products and surrounding vineyards make it suitable for a relaxed cultural trip.

Cyprus has several recognised wine routes. If visiting wineries, the driver should avoid alcohol and plan the route in advance.

Paphos and Kato Paphos

Paphos is one of the longer day trips from Larnaca, so an early departure is recommended. The harbour area can be combined with the Archaeological Park of Kato Paphos.

Because of the longer journey, select a limited number of attractions instead of trying to visit the entire region in one day.

Larnaca Salt Lake, Hala Sultan Tekke, Kiti and Pervolia

For a shorter local drive, combine the Larnaca Salt Lake and Hala Sultan Tekke with the villages of Kiti and Pervolia.

Hala Sultan Tekke is situated approximately five kilometres west of Larnaca. The route can be extended towards the coast for a quiet lunch or walk near Pervolia.

Choosing a Car for Day Trips from Larnaca

A compact automatic car is practical for city streets, parking and trips for one to five passengers. Families and larger groups may prefer a seven- or eight-seat vehicle such as the Toyota Sienta or Toyota Voxy.
